Why do people like text based games???

    Why do they like text based games.There's 2d games which are better than text based games.Text based games makers claim they are the best game company in the internet,but they aren't.Also why do text based games companies like Challenge Games get to join a big gaming company like Zynga or Gameforge getting to publish a game from a big gaming company.

    Some text-based games like MUDs have deeper and more creative gameplay because they are not restricted by making graphics for everything. Text-based games use your mind more.

    I am not big on text based games myself perse, (there are a couple that I think have some potential) over all though you have to understand that most people playing text based games are either doing it from work or from their phones. And most phones can't do a lot of the graphics like flash. And if you are at work, it might be easier to hide a text based game then a flashy graphic filled one.

    Of course these are just guesses so I may be way off the mark here.

    It's because 40 years ago or so we didn't have video games and everything was in your imagination. D&D which is about the closest thing to the games we have today was all pen and paper. Then once computers came along so did games but at first all they could do was text. Lots of older people grew up on text based games(whether pen and paper or on a computer) and books as the main source of entertainment so naturally most of them continue to like them.

    Also like mentioned above text based games can be a lot deeper than graphical games because you aren't restricted by hardware, talent and cost of development.

    It's easier to go forward than to go backwards.

    Yup,people play text based games on work or on the phone.But still,if you got a good computer,why play texted based games.Some internet text based games don't have a lot of reading in it.

    Hmm, when you played text based games, i think the only limit to it is you imagination. I never tried joining those kind of games though. :(

    Yup,they bored me since they don't have graphics.But that just my opinion.Too bad that 90% of mmorpg gamers will hate text based games more than their least favourite graphic games.

    But you know what though, sometimes it isn't about the graphics, if you got rock solid game play that is fun, addictive and keeps you coming back for more, if doesn't always have to have awesome graphics. And on the flip side I have played beautiful games where they were great to look at but the game play was like poking your self in the face with a blunt rock for hours on end.

    So, I think, gameplay is what matters.

    But still,text based games that Gameforge made have very very bad gameplay,click and hit,click and hit.And I want games that show their world in any type of graphics,playing in the world of text while the quest,gameplay and balance is bad is depressing!

    Here is my opinion.
    It depend on the company way,sure text based games are out dated but it could be fun.
    It just have to be something you are interesting at.
    To be more specific,role playing.You also have your own perspective of what things look instead of a direct image,well this only apply if the creator didn't describe it that much.
    Take forum games as an example(yes i know,bad example?),people mainly post due for post counts.Sometimes i do that too,but im a lazy type.I post on a forum game that seem fun to me first,like last person to post wins.

    IMO, i think text-based browser MMO's are really fun, because you have to use your imagination to picture whats there. especially the zombie games, those are BEATS. not beast, beats. and plus, you never have to download anything, and you can easily play it in school or work, with MS Excel, so it looks like you're doing work, but, really, you're just texting a horde of zombies with your imaginary guns and ASCII-ness.

    PS.I don"t like Text Based Games,my generation never heard of a text based game before.
