Today's Bastille Day, so it's a perfect time to ask everyone what their favorite French food is. You can choose foods that originate or have an influence from France or a francophone country.

My favorite French food would have to be pain au chocolat. It's bread (sort of like a croissant), but with chocolate inside.

I've had canned French pâté before, but I've only tried spreading pâté on a cracker and bread. If I recall correctly, its taste was mildly salty (kind of like vienna sausage), and the texture was dense, smooth, and pasty, but spreadable enough.

The other French foods I've eaten were a croissant and pain au chocolat (just learned its actual name from reading the first post, so that's real nice); they both were flaky, oily, and had a buttery taste. Additionally, the pain au chocolat's chocolate filling was hard; I've always thought it was eaten (or made) like that. They were from a large bag of leftover baked goods, so of course, the croissant and pain au chocolat weren't great quality. It's been at least a decade since the last time I ate them (used to eat them sometimes, since my aunt would bring them to her home from her workplace).

So, to answer the question, I'd say French pâté would be my favourite French food. I've hardly had French cuisine, especially since I have never eaten in a French bakery and restaurant before.
