Is anybody else going to buy one? I tried to today, but nobody had one in stores:).

I might, actually. I'm busting my way through a really long novel series right now and no stores around me ever have the volumes I'm looking for, so being able to use the new Kindle instead of hunting for the right books in a store would be awesome.

If you just want books, the Kindle 3G is another great option. Nobody else has the free 3G that I know of.

I think I might buy one around Christmas, I really want one. Love my current Kindle (black one, just the Wi-Fi version though) but the Fire looks sick.

My mom actually does not like the kindle. Here is why:

    It doesn't have a backlight.

She likes to read at night. So she got a samsung ripoff pretty much that has a backlight.

edit: no I do not want a kindle =p just letting people know this in case they like to read at night.

I'm the exact opposite, Ichi. XD I don't really like staring at backlit screens in darkness as they tend to give me some pretty nasty headaches, so the Kindle would be a good solution down my end. :)

I do understand your side of it, though. I bet there are a lot of people out there who would like to read in bed or in the car at night without having to turn on lights everywhere.

I don't like the Fire not having an SD slot. What is up with that?

I thought we were talking about the Kindle Fire? As for the standard Kindle, I'm fine without a blacklight, makes it seem much more like real text.

I believe it's because Amazon offers free, unlimited storage on their cloud for any type of file.

Recent estimates have Kindle Fire in the -$15 to $5 range of profit, an sd card slot would of cost too much at the $199 price point. Amazon figured with it's cloud storage it'd be able to cut it without much fuss, same with it only having 8gb of storage instead of the standard of 16gb.

Personally, I want one; but I just don't have the cash for something like that right now. Also, I'd want to be able to read Kindle books on it, and right now the concept of e-books just hasn't gotten through the heads of some publishers who make them sometimes almost as expensive as an actual book (I'd rather have the book in that case.)

Anyway, I need to get a new HD camera and a new printer, and that'll probably cost me more than a Kindle Fire.

If I can, eventually, and if it stands up as a tablet, I like the idea of the Fire. It looks sleek and effective, and I could use something like that to sit next to my laptop as a second window into my cyber-information stores. :snore:

Wish the Kindle Fire used 3G like the regular Kindle:).

I was able to get the Wi-Fi working last night:). It's exactly what I wanted: an Android Tablet that plays games and movies well. I was also able to use the books that I already bought on my 3G Kindle.

Yeah Fire is great for what it is. Whispersync and just syncing in general is defiantly a strength of Amazon's various services.

Actually the Kindle Fire costs $201 to make. Amazon is losing money by selling it this low, they hope to make it up though in things that people will buy (music, videos, books) for the device. Of course, production costs will go down as it becomes cheaper to make whatever chips and whatnot goes into building the Kindle Fire, but the price will also drop accordingly then too.

Yup except Amazon hasn't released the production costs and probably wont so it's all just estimates.

The Kindle Fire seems to be more fragile than than the Kindle so far.
