For every level you gain 5 to 6 AP and a skill point. How players allocate their attribute/stats and which skill they upgrade is totally up to the player. However, it is always recommended to view forums or do some research on effective skill builds, as some inexperienced players will tend to mess up their character build. For example, there's the Pure Luck Mage and there's also the Pure Intel Mage, each with a totally different skill build in order to suit with their respective stats build. Another great but simple example is adding your AP to Intelligence for Theifs instead of Luck. It's not logical to do so, but it's not restricted either. Hence, it's not advisable for new players to rush into the game and allocate their points as they like, because they might end up creating a very weak character.

Maplestory

Maplestory (MS) is a free-to-play, 2D, Sidescrolling MMORPG. It is developed by Wizet and published by Nexon. It is played by several million players worldwide. Players can enhance their gameplay by purchasing Nexon cash via paypal or prepaid cards at retailers. In this game, players can create their own one of three classes : Adventurer, Aran, and Knight of Cygnus. Each class has their own unique style. Players can join up with other players and form a party to make hunting easier or even do Party Quests(PQ). They are also able to create a guild and take on the Guild Party Quest.

Gameplay

Players must defeat monsters to continue their journey in the Maple world. They have to defeat monsters to obtain mesos(Currency) and experience points from monsters. One may continue their
journey by themselves or team up with buddies, guildmates, or party members to earn experience points. A player can train at a certain map until they level up or they can team up with a party and
do a party quest allowing them to earn a vast amount of experience points at the end.
There are many servers to choose from. A player can choose a world that is the oldest and most likely the most populous or join a relatively new world which would have a smaller amount of players
compared to larger worlds.

Classes

Every player starts with the 'Beginner' class. At level 10, every Beginner has the choice of advancing to another job (or class). The choices are: Pirate, Magician, Bowman, Rogue, or Warrior.

Beginner class:

Every player starts with the 'Beginner' class. They are the weakest class, due to a general lack of skills (only three) and not being able to wield stronger, class-specific weapons. Also, the only weapons they CAN wield are melee weapons, so they are limited to melee attacks as well.

However, there are those who choose NOT to job advance at level 10. They are called 'Perma-Beginners', and their goals are generally to reach a certain level as a Beginner. Perma-Beginners generally receive a lot of respect, as they are using the weakest class, with bad weapons and bad skills to take on monsters that will be stronger than them, all just to reach a certain goal. Their max level is 200.

In the East Asian version of Maple Story, Perma-Beginners have access to the Maroon Mop, which is a level 36 weapon exclusive to Beginners. It has the highest attack power of any weapon in the game.

Job Advancements:

At level 10, Beginners may advance to another class. They can then advance again three times (so, each character has a total of four job advancements possible). The job advancements are broken into these branches:

Magician class:

Magician>Cleric>Priest>Bishop

Magician>Wizard(Ice/Lightning)>Mage(Ice/Lightning)>Arch Mage(Ice/Lightning)

Magician>Wizard(Fire/Poison)>Mage(Fire/Poison)>Arch Mage(Fire Poison)

Warrior class:

Warrior>Fighter>Crusader>Hero

Warrior>Spearman>Dragon Knight>Dark Knight

Warrior>Page>White Knight>Paladin

Bowman:

Bowman>Hunter>Ranger>Bowmaster

Bowman>Crossbowman>Sniper>Marksman

Pirate:

Pirate>Gunslinger>Outlaw>Corsair

Pirate>Brawler>Marauder>Buccaneer

Thief:

Thief>Assassin>Hermit>Night Lord

Thief>Bandit>Chief Bandit>Shadower

Knight of Cygnus class:

The Knight of Cygnus class is the second oldest class in Maplestory. They are basically mini versions of Beginners. Their max level is only a small 120 but instead of 5 AP to put in their stats like the other classes, they obtain 6 to put in their stats. The choice of characters are: Blaze Wizard, Night Walker, Wind Archer, and Thunder Breaker

Aran class:

The Aran class is the newest class released in Maplestory. They wield pole-arms only and wish to complete their journey to defeat the wicked, "Black Mage". Their max level is 200. They are the strongest class in the game.

Levelling up/skills/stats

The levelling system in MapleStory is very customizeable.
