MMORPG's are Massively multiplayer online role-playing say 2000 people a sever and online RPGS are 8 people to a sever.

Yes, Diablo fits in this category.

Not sure if there are any exact numbers, but normally an MMO is built for considerably more players in one world.

Think Diablo and Guild Wars. Diablo only allows a few people playing the same world. You are in a lobby outside the game when trying to find someone to play with. On the other hand, Guild Wars allows hundreds of people in the same world even though its instanced too.

I would say it takes at least a few hundred people in a world to be a MMO. That make any sense?

I consider Guild Wars a MMO and diablo a online rpg. MMO can have a lot of people on one "world" (or what ever you want to call it) online rpg can only has a few people on per "world".

Hopefully this is more clear than my first post.

Online RPG is basically an RPG you can play online with a few people. This fits more text and old school type rpgs.

MMORPG is an RPG you can play with hundreds to thousands of people at once. Of course, the big ones like WoW have multiple servers and millions of players. Hope that helps.

    MMORPG > Online RPG

MMORPG's are the evolution of the online RPG genre as a whole, imo. I don't think since the MMO craze started has there been a major online RPG release. If there has been, please bring it up because I'm sort of interested in this sort of evolution of MMO's.

For the record, I also consider Guild Wars to be an MMORPG, not an online RPG.

Agreed. Online RPGs won't be a major release unless it is a game like Diablo 3. That will definitely be a major release lol.

To me online rpgs are the past. MMORPGs are where its really at! Who wants to play with a few people when you can play with hundreds to millions lol?

There is a lot of margin between 8 people and 2000. What about little MMOs with only 100-300 people on at a time?

Well that was just and example. Ok I'll try to come up with a better way:

MMO: a computer game which is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and feature at least one persistent world.

Online game: games that are played over some form of computer network, most commonly the Internet. The expansion of online gaming has reflected the overall expansion of computer networks from small local networks to the Internet and the growth of Internet access itself.

In other words MMORPG is a role playing game that is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously and have at least one persistent world.

Online RPGs are role playing games that is played over a computer network that expands from a small local network (Ex:lan) to the internet (Ex:battle.net) and can have persistent worlds.
