Pardon my ignorance but what is the difference between a PBBG and a browser game?

there isn't much of a difference really.

pbbg stands for persistent browser based game while browser game is well a browser game. The only slight differences there are, is that the environment in a pbbg is persistent, meaning that there are no sudden and big changes, the environment stays the same, while a browser game can change a lot in a short time. Another minor difference is that ppbg less frequently uses plugins like flash and such.

my game for example is a persistent browser based game, because the environment stays the same even after you logout. For instance in my game i make changes too after each round like new units, different maps and such, but the in-game environment remains medieval Japan. If i suddenly changed it to ancient china it wouldn't be persistent anymore. Also suppose people go inactive and take their land with them, it wouldn't be persistent anymore. So persistent means the game world stays the same no matter what happens.

Actually, Persistent means the world changes while you are offline.
Example: You start building a house. It finishes building while you are offline instead of pausing.

Er...if you changed it to ancient china, it'd be a different game Shugo. :)

yeah that's what i meant when the world doesn't change. The house will still be there, even if you're offline, only time is a factor.

what i meant with china was that if you changed the setting all of the sudden then it would no longer be persistent, because then it's a totally different world, and yes it would also make it a totally different game ;)

uhm i'm not sure actually. I don't think farmville is persistent, because the world isn't exactly there when you're offline unless it does store variables. It has to be persistent not just to you, but also for others who play it.

Farmville is a copy of farm town.

    Also, it's hardly a MMO.
One person goes to your place and sees weeds, while everyone else doesn't, etc.
The only time you actually see people is when you invite them to your farm.

PBBG was created to make online browser games a fancy term that looks like MMORPG:D.

Nah, PBBG is just a genre of Browser Based games (very small compared to MMORPGs) ..and doesn't look quite like MMORPG.

If PBBG only needs to be browser based, and persistent, that means it doesn't even have to be massively multiplayer, and you don't have to be able to meet other people right?

All PBBGs are still browser games:p. PBBG is just fancier sounding.

I guess a PBBG is like a cousin of a MMORPG then?
