Roguelikes bear several resemblances to MUDs, so I've decided that this belongs in this forum.

Roguelikes are single player games, following these guidelines (although roguelikes can vary, these are what they normally are:)
    • Turn Based - You can spend an hour thinking about your next move.
    • Permadeath - If you die, you die. You can't undo anything you do, or go back to an older save file.
    • Randomized Levels - Levels change every time you play a new game, so it is very replayable.

Most of the time in Roguelikes, the player must travel to the bottom of a dungeon, collect a sacred object, and escape the dungeon. It's harder than it sounds though, throughout every part of the dungeon, troubles await, from poison traps to strong enemies.

For a first timer, I would reccomend Stone Soup, it has a tutorial.
    Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

If you need any help, just ask.

There ARE graphics versions of these games:
    Nethack
    Stone Soup
IVAN (Don't play this if you are a beginner.)

Controls are usually the number pad, or the hjkl yu bn keys.

These controls are what I use:
    H - left
    J - Down
    K - Up
    L - Left

    Y- Up and left
    U - up and right

    b - down, left
    n - down, right

EDIT: My troll berserker just died again.
Time to play a Vampire Wizard, or maybe a Necromancer.
    Or possibly a Merman Enchanter?
