I feel like the MMO industry is absolutely NOT a safe way to spend money for gamers.
Games shut down all the time and money spent will just be lost; the industry is just too eratic. It isn't stable.

Further more, online gamers don't realise just how at risk they are. After myself being permantly banned for a first time offense of swearing on aeriagames, I have come to realise just how vulnerable and defenseless an online gamer is.

I haven't had the time to sift through other companies terms of service and rules but aeriagames permanant ban cost me $70.
They basically reserve the right to do absolutely anything they want with your account. And their support just links you and shows you that.
In other words a ban appeal does literally nothing for you.
I had never received a warning before and I thought this was simply jaw-dropping. So yes, this is kind of a ban story.

I tried to tell my story on their forums, but of course, aeriagames won't let anyone speak against them so they deleted absolutely every post I ever made. In fact, they even deleted my post in their "Rants and raves" section AND my post in their "Rate aeriagames service" thread.

On top of that I believe that aeriagames either don't refund players for games that have shut down, or refund them poorly. But I'm not too informed there, (Which is surprising because they have 9873498570983745987 games shut down every year)

    . . .

Is this what the MMO industry is about?
It's not right . . . Please post any ban story you have or your opinion. Thank you.

I would not call MMOs legal theft. At best you can call them a form of gambling if you get banned or hacked. you lose that money but how often does that happen?

It sucks but they are well within the right you gave them when you agreed to the EULA (end user license agreement), most people don't read them but the agreement usually forfeits all yours rights and gives them the rights to do whatever they please with your account with pretty much 0 liability to them. Again it sucks but until people stop signing them, nothing is gonna change. For now all you can do is follow the rules and hope the game doesn't close or don't spend the money on the game in the first place.

Yeah, I realise you guys are right, and it is unfortunate. I won't ever make the same mistake again.

    Define: Theft
In common usage, theft is the illegal taking of another person's property without that person's permission or consent with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of ...

I think saying they "legally stole the money from me", actually is pretty accurate. It's only the legal part that changes.

There honestly needs to be a bunch of laws protecting gamers and online spenders from this kind of shit. ToS and rules that strip you of even your consumer rights? C'mon now.

I found this video, and now I realise that just how vulnerable a gamer is to being treated like garbage.

It can't be considered theft if you never owned it. All MMO playerss are doing is renting gaming space each month.

Yes, if that is in there terms of service, there is not much if anything you could do except not play their games anymore.
