Aion is doomed to run further in 2011. In Aion 2.5's upcoming test on Jan. 26, new instances, new maps and new graphics rendered by use of a brand-new engine will make their appearance respectively, with style, content and intelligence as its key words.
Beautify Yourself – A Personalized Appearance System
In this update, players will be able to witness Aion's 2-year-old appearance system greatly modified. First, there're no longer restrictions on the face shape, which gives players more freedom to customize their characters' facial expressions & outlines and body proportions. Motions like standing and jumping and store-related info are also added to the character info system, which enables players to have a more direct understanding of their characters.
In addition to appearance, prestigious clothing in the game is also very impressive. The in-game 4 brand-new sets of prestigious clothing will give full play to players' personality, sexiness, elegance and loveliness, and different statuses can just be reflected through different prestigious clothes.

RIFT: Planes of Telara (hereafter referred to as "RIFT", with the corresponding in-game system to be written as "Rift") has recently announced its official release date – March 1, 2011, which's definitely good news for many RIFT fans. Meanwhile, TRION Worlds has released a new preorder advertising film, which lasts only 33 seconds but is believed to deeply impress the audience. From the name "We're Not in Azeroth Anymore", we can see that the company is obviously aiming at World of Warcraft. Is RIFT really capable of dragging WoW down from the leading position in the MMO circle, or is that only a kind of bravado? Below are some of my opinions formed after I tried out the game at different stages!
Regardless of RIFT's background story or art settings, RIFT looks almost the same as WoW, no matter from the perspective of controls, rhythm, or 90% basic settings like the double-faction mode, quests, battlefields, achievements, instances, raids and UI. Incredible, right? I dare say that if switching from WoW to RIFT suddenly, you won't feel any difference in game controls, and everything will go naturally with only some difference in graphics maybe.
The only difference between RIFT and WoW lies in the class settings, and moreover, Rift is RIFT's greatest selling point. However, the settings that players consider to be necessary in new next-gen MMORPGs, like the comprehensive voice guide system, the control mode closer to that of ARPGs, cinematic scenes interlarded during gameplay, and more easy-going quest journey, just cannot or can seldom be found in RIFT.
So, what kind of charm makes RIFT deserve a try, and which are the insidious threats that the game may have to face in the future or which in-game elements are not that appealing? First, let's get to the game's selling points!
RIFT makes an extremely interesting attempt, i.e. to set basic callings depending on four basic traditional rules (i.e. Tank, Physical Damage, Magical Damage, Healing) first, and then assign eight promoted classes to each calling. Each promoted class in RIFT can actually serve as a specific class in other MMORPGs. RIFT players are able to present their ideal characters by endowing the characters with combined characteristics of three different classes at most. This feature is just called "Soul Tree", and each player can adjust the class combination on his/her Soul Tree at will. Take "Mage" corresponding to "Magical Damage" as an example! Player A's Soul Tree may be attached with the class combination of Elementalist, Stormcaller and Pyromancer, with Elementalist taking up half of the 51 consumable points, while Player B with the same class combination may choose to have Pyromancer consume most of the points. From this, we can see that even the same class combination can give rise to totally different results, which is just RIFT's distinctive charm in terms of class settings.
Nexon's triple phased Big Bang update for MapleStory, the 2-D side-scrolling massively multiplayer online game, is now complete with the addition of the "Birth of the Mechanic" content. Maplers can now assume the role of the valiant Mechanic character class while joining the Resistance in their battle against the menacing Black Wings, foul underlings of the wicked Black Mage.
The Mechanic is a member of the Pirate family and carries the same weapons and equipment as a standard Pirate. As a mounted character, the Mechanic rides a powerful ME-07 mech and uses advanced technology to activate robot minions to wreak havoc on unsuspecting Black Wings. Both new and experienced players will find that the Mechanic's fast-paced combat advantages and simultaneous attacking and healing capabilities, combined with the ability to navigate more efficiently through maps, provides new formidable ways to battle the Black Mage and explore the newly overhauled Maple World.
The three-part Big Bang update has completely renewed the MapleStory that players have come to know and love, introducing a slew of changes that offer players a completely remastered adventure. The previous Big Bang updates, which rolled out in December, introduced a visually richer Maple World, a simpler user interface, redesigned and rebalanced skills, an easier EXP curve, two new worlds, the Wild Hunter and Battle Mage classes and much more. With the addition of the Mechanic class, the new character class trifecta and Big Bang update is now complete.
To celebrate the Birth of the Mechanic release, MapleStory will be having its third Hot Time event on Jan. 22, from 2:00pm PST to 2:01 pm PST. Players logged in at this time will all receive an SP Reset Scroll as well as a chance to win a timeless item or other prizes valued at 5,000 and 10,000 NX. Players are encouraged to log in early and participate in the 2X EXP and drop from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. PST to ensure Hot Time participation.
Dungeon Fighter Online, the classic side-scrolling arcade-style beat 'em up MMO from Nexon, will experience the Witch Awakening with the highly anticipated Act VII: Witching Hour update, coming January 26.
As a subclass of the Mage, the Witch is a gifted student of the ancient art of alchemy. The highly intelligent Witch makes battle decisions based on probability, which allows her to analyze the most likely outcomes for success. The Witch awakening hones in on this proficiency with new specialized skills that maximize attack durations, such as the Witch Machine, a device that unleashes an assault of multiple attacks that immobilizes and deals intense damage to foes. Additionally, as a special event for the awakening, parties grouped with an awakened witch will receive a 10 percent XP bonus for a party of two and a 20 percent XP bonus for a party of three or more.
In addition to the Witch awakening, the January content update will feature the brand new Hellkarium Quest, which can be received at level 47. This quest, accessible from the Tower of the Dead, bestows a variety of high level Hellkarium weapons, crafted out of the ore of Hell, specific to each class awakening. These hell-spawned weapons contribute a significant +1 skill point to players' awakened skillsPlayers are also encouraged to enter the Screaming Cavern, a brand new dungeon shrouded in the haunting screams of the ancient Nugol. Found beneath the lush forests of Elvenguard, Screaming Cavern is a level 54 dungeon that challenges fighters to battle through Nugol worm offspring and ultimately face Giant Nugol, Queen of the dungeon.
The Blood Lord's reign of terror in Vindictus arrives along with special football events
The Blood Lord rises in Vindictus, Nexon America's award-winning physics-based action MMORPG. Brave mercenaries can band together in the mission "Shadowed by Darkness" to embark on the ultimate vampire hunt.
The Blood Lord is the most challenging raid boss to come to Vindictus so far. Up to six mercenaries can join together to face him, but bringing him to submission will require every trick in the book due to his devastating arsenal of attacks. Those players who are creative enough to defeat him with footballs (that's right, footballs in Vindictus) are in for special rewards.
Players must be at least level 41 to face the Blood Lord, but those who are victorious against him will be able to craft the coveted Nightmare Armor set.
Also now available are all new hairstyles, face paint and body tattoos in the cash shop, along with special football themed content. Attentive players will find footballs scattered around the missions, which can be kicked at boss monsters (just think of them as mobile, menacing field goal targets). Every boss defeated with a football kick will yield a coupon, and three coupons can be redeemed for a special football jersey. Combined with any football helmet (available in the cash shop), the jersey and helmet together will yield special bonuses. Show your team spirit by picking up your own helmet and jersey today!

En Masse wants to make sure we understand that they are working hard on what they call the "westernization" of TERA. Most times when we talk localization of an Asian MMO we're talking about translating text, many times horribly, into a Western language. En Masse is taking a different tack. They aren't just removing the "All Your Base"'s from TERA, they're looking to tailor their game to Western audiences.
Culturally gamers have over the years recognized that an Eastern player approaches a game very differently than a Western gamer. While the Eastern gamer is more focused on the combat and the social connections in their MMOs, for Western gamers the focus is more on interacting with an epic story and feeling that you actions are affecting the game. Recognizing this distinction, En Masse is working on building their Western version of the game with the Western gamer in mind. They say that when you sit down to play TERA, no matter what side of the globe you live on, the game will feel like it was built especially for you.
I love that En Masse is thinking so critically about their worldwide audience. It shows that they have looked at what the MMO market currently has to offer, and have seen a trend where games that do well in Asia don't always translate to Western popularity. We've already seen this trend work well for Nexon and Vindictus (although I'm sure the folks over at TERA wouldn't really like me bringing the competition into this conversation), and I'm pleased that more developers are thinking globally in terms of game design.
In addition to touting their Westernization of TERA, the folks over at En Masse wanted to share a preview of two races and a class from the game. As they say, looks can be decieving, and that is never more apparent than with the Baraka and the Popori:
video: YouTube - TERA Archer Trailer January 2011
Featured Class: archer
Archers are clever tacticians, studying the art of making their prey come to them. They must know when to engage at range and when to dash in for the close-kill. They rely on their skill and agility to keep safe. A quick archer can whittle down a foe before it becomes a danger to the party, using a combination of traps and weapons to manipulate a fight to their advantage.
Sole take this manipulative tendency out of battle and bring it into their social circle, where they focus on controlling conversations and social situations to suit their needs or desires. It wouldn't be fair to say that you can't ever trust an archer's motives, but staying alert is always wise.
Knowing the baraka descend from giants might lead you to the assumption that they share a similar personality, but you couldn't be more wrong. Though daunting in height and size, they have a gentle nature and deep intelligence. These are the scholars of the world, and they spend much of their time studying and researching.
This does not mean they would make a poor choice in combat, however. On the contrary, the baraka may be pacifists when it comes to matters of philosophy, but they are fierce in defense of the weak. It is never wise to cross someone who not only knows the proper way to crush a skeleton, but is strong enough to do it.
The poporis are nature spirits—animals taken from the forest by the elin, who awaken them to sentience. They retain most of their animalistic qualities, including a childlike ignorance of common social niceties in favor of bluntness and brevity. They believe that communication should be simple so that everyone can get to carrying out their orders.
A common misconception about poporis is that their "cuteness" should be synonymous with "weakness"—though the foolish few who have acted on this assumption have quickly learned their error and, if they live, they are sure not to repeat it. Poporis are formidable foes on the battlefield, and they rarely feel guilt or shame at their actions.
The massive tank battles in World War II will come back again to all of you soon. World of Tanks announced that the Open Beta of the team-based MMO will start on January 27th with new maps and new vehicles added. Currently servers in NA, EU and Russia are available and you can sign up on the official site by selecting your region.
Currently, World of Tanks provides about 60 vehicles(include light, medium, and heavy tanks, tank destroyers and long-range self-propelled howitzers) of Germany and the Soviet Union. The number of vehicles will increase to 150 and tanks from America, France, Britain, and Japan will be added when the game's released. You start with the lightest and cheapest tank and you can further upgrade your vehicle by installing better equipment of higher levels. As your tanks get upgraded, you get more experienced crews that will help you a lot in the battle. All the tanks, from the models to the firing, are very close to those real ones. For combat, you can experience different shooting gameplays including third person shooting, sniper mode, and howitzer mode. Tactics and coordinating moves are also important parts in the battle.
In the past 6 months, more than 260000 players took part in the closed beta fighting around 2 million battles and destroying 40 million vehicles with peak concurrent users number surpassing 20000 people. The upcoming Open Beta will welcome more new soldiers and commanders, what are you waiting for?

Now, toy figures around the world are engaged in an all-out war for valuable battery resources and supremacy of the Micro World. All we can do now is stay out of their way and wait for a champion to be declared!
burda:ic today announced the launch of a brand new expansion for online third-person shooter S4 League. This update, entitled S4 League: Season 1, is the first installment in a series of planned additions to the title, and features a plethora of new weapons, a new map, a new character, and a mysteriously ominous plotline. S4 League: Season 1 will take players on a dark and dangerous ride they won't soon forget.
With the discovery of a forgotten continent hidden in the depths of the ocean, remnants of an ancient civilization were uncovered that included an odd tablet inscribed with binary code. Dubbed the Zerone Code, its decryption told of a superior race that existed centuries earlier, and its translation led to undreamed-of discoveries... at least until a major experiment went horribly wrong and the government scrapped the project on the spot. Despite this setback, an unknown source is still distributing the code to black market developers, ensuring that those who want to keep the lid to Pandora's Box open can peek inside for themselves.
S4 League: Season 1 introduces new maps, costumes, weapons, capsules and more. Set in the realm of Dark Lightning, the new "Nightmare" map for example offers players a battlefield filled with gloom and ruin, and it holds a secret magic of its own. The new map is available in both Chaser mode and the recently introduced Captain mode. New costume capsules, including the gothic Rocaille Set Capsule, are also available, as well as a number of deadly new weapons. Whether players seek out the Bloody Spy Dagger, magnetically charged Twin Blade, or Earth Bomber grenade, there are plenty of dark new ways to deal out damage.
If that weren't exciting enough, a new chaser has also appeared in S4 League, the beautiful Ophelia Virus. With higher attack and defense stats than the Demon Virus, Ophelia Virus is a force to be reckoned with. That deadly beauty aside, Ophelia also offers players the possibility to select a higher or lower probability to become the Chaser.

video: YouTube - Champions Online: Free for All Trailer
Free for All is not only a free to play version, but also an update to the original Champions Online with a Archetypes system added. "An Archetype is a pre-defined build for a hero. It specifies which powers you'll receive when you level up, what superstats you'll have, and what role you're best equipped to play."
What's more, Cryptic has completely revamped the story and mission while fixed and improved the powers and UI. According to Cryptic, all these changes are just a start and they plan to implement more contents in the future.

Faxion Online Reveals Multi-class System
UTV True Games just revealed some details about the special-designed multi-class system for Faxion Online. With multi-class system, you can pick up the abilities or characteristics from other classes for your class that you choose at the beginning. This is an exciting feature for those who love to try combination and customization.
Faxion Online isn't the kind of game that tries to throw class away. The game has 6 very traditional classes(each faction has 3 classes) which clearly define your role(fighter, mage, or healer) in the game. Although you don't have too many freedoms at the character creation stage, you will be free to develop your character in the following gameplay. The class you select at the very beginning is a base class that determines your character's initial set of skills and abilities. As you move ahead in the game you will be able to train your character into a second class's line of abilities and even a third.
Faxion Online is free to play MMORPG with more competitive actions and less grinds. The game will enter Closed Beta later this month (sign up for CBT here User account | Faxion).
Super Smash Bros. Brawl right now. Great game to play with friends.
The game is still fun though; it's a game that you play every now and then.
Redbana and T3 Entertainment today officially announced their fishing MMO Grand Mer for global market. Grand Mer is the world's first free-to-play online fishing game set in an open and persistent ocean world and it will kick off Closed Beta soon.
Grand Mer takes place in the year 2018 on planet Earth after massive flooding caused by global warming, climate change and heavy rains. Fishing is now the single most important activity as the human race fights starvation in an effort to survive.
As a game that focuses on fishing, its player based will be unavoidably limited. But the game is still a good choice for casual players with its beautiful scenes and fashions. If you think the gameplay will be as slow as the fishing in reality, you are wrong. You'll need to use different skills you learn from level up and what's more, you have to use the right skill at the right time, or the fish will go away.
Not only your character's skills and fishing talents will affect your performance, your boats and fishing gears play important parts in the game, and these are all upgradeable. Besides, the ocean and the environment change dynamically and you have to consider some factors like weather, time and location.
Nexon's North American publishing arm boosted by December's 60 percent revenue growth over 2009
Nexon, the leading global publisher of microtransaction-based massively multiplayer online games (MMOG), has announced that fourth quarter revenues for its North American business unit, Nexon America, have increased by 42 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2009. The increase in revenues was attributed to a particularly strong December, when Nexon America's revenue posted a 60 percent increased compared to December of 2009.
Nexon America services Combat Arms, MapleStory, Vindictus, Dungeon Fighter Online, Mabinogi and PopTag! in the North American market. All of Nexon's games are microtransaction-based, where players can play for free or choose to purchase in-game items which enhance their gaming experience.
Nexon's North American release of the "Big Bang" expansion for MapleStory contributed to the company's revenue increase, bringing in a host of new and returning players to the game. In mid-December, Nexon recorded more than 136,000 individuals playing MapleStory at the same time, nearly doubling the record for concurrent players, first set in July of 2009.
"It was a tremendous fourth quarter and year for Nexon and MapleStory's Big Bang had a lot to do with it," said Daniel Kim, Nexon America's CEO. "Nexon has perfected a formula for gameplay with a business model that attracts players and keeps them loyal. Players don't have to pay a cent to enjoy Nexon's games, but our players who do pay to enhance their gameplay experience tend to spend more than the typical social gamer or subscription-based game player. Evidence of the success of this formula was seen with the release of the Big Bang expansion and the resulting increase in concurrent players and revenues."
During the past decade, Nexon has pioneered and perfected the microtransaction business model, which has resulted in average player spending rates in double digit dollar figures per month and longer lifetime values. A player of a Nexon game often measures their stay in months and years.
"When we entered the North American market in 2005, our microtransaction-based business model was not expected to succeed, but we adapted to the market and made it work. What we see in the games industry today is huge revenue growth for our business model as publishers attempt to copy our formula while struggling during the down economy," Kim said.
Entering 2011, Nexon America is preparing for the launch of the highly-anticipated Dragon Nest, a stylish, fantasy-based action MMOG. The game was a hit at 2010's E3 Expo in Los Angeles and has been well received in Korea and other territories.
"Dragon Nest will continue to raise the bar for microtransaction-based games and should energize the North American market with stylized graphics, fast action and immersive gameplay," Kim said.
About Nexon America, Inc.
Nexon America Inc. is the North American publishing arm of Nexon Group, a pioneer of interactive entertainment software and the world's leader in massively multiplayer online games. Based in Los Angeles, Nexon America was founded in 2005 to bring the best of online entertainment to the North American audience. The company's growing library of titles includes the world famous franchise MapleStory; the new fantasy life of Mabinogi; the fast-paced, first-person shooter Combat Arms; the action-adventure RPG Dungeon Fighter Online; the online, arcade-style multiplayer, hyper-puzzle action game PopTag!; and the recently launched physics-based action online game, Vindictus. burda:ic today announced an update for RTS Action MMO LOCO - Land of Chaos Online that features a slew of in-game user interface improvements, as well as the introduction of an all-new assist system. The update is now available for players worldwide to download upon logging in to the game.
Entering the new LOCO game lobby, players will find that it is now easier than ever to jump into combat. Users just need to press the "Play a Game" button at the top of the screen, and they'll be on their way to the battlefield straightaway. Similarly, a "Play with Friends" button has been added, making it simple to invite friends and quickly start a game. Along with these design changes, burda:ic has introduced a new assist system that gives players the chance to nab extra EXP, gold and in-game points in combat. Previously, when a player applied the finishing blow to a monster, only that player was rewarded. With the new assist system in effect, any characters that help to kill an enemy will now also get a cut of the spoils. This is true for all monsters on the battlefield, not just bosses, ensuring that players can quickly amass a ton of loot by helping out their fellow fighters!
About LOCO - Land of Chaos Online
Developed by Danal Entertainment, Land of Chaos Online is a truly next-gen multiplayer online game that features high-end graphics, a roster of 30 playable characters with unique skills and personalities, and hectic online combat. LOCO's unique combination of RTS, Action, and RPG elements is guaranteed to give players around the world a gaming experience unlike anything they've ever seen.
burda:ic today unveiled brand-new details about upcoming Steampunk Fantasy MMORPG ARGO Online, with the game's developers offering a glimpse into some of the finer points of this post-apocalyptic battlefield.
ARGO Online is a world where two very different philosophies prevail: for one side, technology and its advancement are top priorities, while the opposing thinkers cry for mankind to forgo this advancement in exchange for a life provided by the Earth itself. League of Legends Releases Latest Champion - Karma
Riot Games, the developer and publisher of the highly acclaimed PC game League of Legends, has just released details about its newestenlightened champion, Karma.
Even in her youth, Karma exhibited almost superhuman composure. While her peers explored the torrent of emotions that came with adolescence, Karma meditated in the Lotus Gardens. She was convinced that the true path to enlightenment was a journey inward, to a place within the self, overlooked by most. She exuded such inner contentment that she quickly became a go-to mediator and confidante in her village. Her instructors used to say: "That girl can not only weather a storm, but calm it." Karma did not live extravagantly; her parents owned a local business selling antiques in the Navori province and they often struggled to provide for themselves, though they did so with cheery optimism. Her most prized possessions were two exquisite fans taken from her family's shop.
When Noxian troops invaded southern Ionia, her village was one of the first to fall. The villagers who survived the assault were captured by Noxian forces. It was then that Karma found her calling. By exploiting the insecurities of the Noxian commander, she negotiated the safe release of the villagers to the northern lands. She was present at the Placidium, where the Elders had considered surrender until Irelia's impassioned last stand renewed the Ionians' hope. Karma used this hope to solidify the Elders' commitment to remain defiant against the Noxian onslaught. For her devotion and charisma, Karma was made the figurehead of the Ionian resistance. She never compromised, and she shared every hardship with her people, even when it came to combat. By tapping into her inner resilience, she discovered that she could bring great force to bear against her foes on the battlefield. She modified her fans into lethal implements, and was tutored by Janna to enhance their effects. The Noxians called her "The Enlightened One," a nickname she embraced, and one which they would come to dread. She joined the League to represent Ionia in the ultimate political arena.
"Her fan technique is a deadly art of grace and poise, but her truest strength lies in the hearts of those willing to die alongside her." -Irelia, the Will of the Blades
