Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (commonnly called RoC) is a real-time strategy game (RTS) from the worldly-renouned game developers, Blizzard Entertainment. It's storyline, setting, and game environment are what inspired one of the most well-known and popular MMORPGs; World of Warcraft. WC3 is also the sequel to two other Blizzard RTS games entitled Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. There is currently no planned sequel to Warcraft III, and Blizzard seems to want to continue the storyline through their MMORPG.

Storyline [Warning: Contains Spoilers]

Reign of Chaos begins with a tutorial/prologue in which the player oversees the Orcs as they leave their homes. The Orc Warchief, Thrall, has received a message from a mysterious Prophet who claims to have seen the future. The Prophet tells Thrall to lead his people across the sea to Kalimdor if they wish to survive. This prologue is very easy and straightforward, and serves mostly as just a way to set up the campaigns and help new players get associated with the seemingly confusing game controls.

The real action begins in the Human Campaign, which follows Prince Arthas of Lordaeron as he unravels the mystery of a deadly scourge that is sweeping across his land. After a few missions Arthas and the player find that the grain to be distributed among the people is poisoned and turns them into the undead. Arthas continues to kill people and moves up the undead chain of command until eventually he starts hunting the dreadlord Mal'Ganis. Soon, the people around Arthas begin to see the hunt driving the young prince to insanity. Many try to tell him this and warn him as to what he is becomming, but he refuses to listen. Eventually Arthas' search takes him to the cold icy throne of Northrend. In Northrend, Arthas commits many atrocities. When his men attempt to leave him, he hires mercenaries to burn the ships as their only way home. Before his men can question the mercenaries, Arthas accuses them of treason and they are all slain. He then convinces his men to push forward to victory. In the final mission of the campaign, Arthas and Mal'Ganis make one final clash. Arthas' troops are losing, and so he takes the legendary sword of Frostmourne. This sword allows the player to max out Arthas' stats easily and makes the killing of Mal'Ganis much simpler. Upon finally killing Mal'Ganis, Arthas realizes that the sword is speaking to him through the Lich King, the master behind the plague of Lordaeron. Arthas runs off into the blizzard of Northrend and is eventually driven insane by the Lich King, and ends up becoming one of his most powerful servants, and the first of the Death Knights.
