What do you dislike most about grinding?

Discussion in 'Adventure Quest 3D' started by Snowy, Jun 4, 2018.

  1. I can say without a doubt AQ3D has/had several grinding aspects from low % drop rates (e.g. Midas' Curse), long boss respawns (e.g. Ancient Evil), limited dungeon key uses (e.g. Soulborne Axe), tedious crafting requirements (e.g. Crimson Staff of the Abyss), item cost (e.g. Royal Talon Armor), and so on.

    What do you dislike most about grinding? For me, I would say ultimately, it's the low % drops since those apply to a ton of item drops in the game.

    What I hate most about grinding is that it is tedious and mind-numbing. Typically, we use computers to do repetitive tasks; yet AE is selling these as entertainment.

    Here are some discussions on grinding as a problem:

    Imo, AE are doing some things right -- updates and new content and more recently, addition of more complex encounters ... however, they are just doing it wrong in some others -- the game mechanics are ... boring ... why?
    • static build development - essentially there are no builds
    • static gear choices
    • gameplay is simplistic - essentially all we do is mash the 4 skills and the special when it is ready - there are only 4 battles that are different:
      • akriloth - avoidance patterns;
      • knightmare - aggro and positional strategy;
      • wall of pain - dps requirement on healer eye and wall of pain;
      • dreadfool - chase the target
    • too much focus on costume collection
    I really hope they improve the game mechanics and doing something about character development (build-wise).

    There's 1 MAJOR issue that makes the grinding seem a million times worse than it actually is with aq3d. Any traditional hardcore gamer can stand some grinding, even too much at times. In aq3d, the question after grinding something becomes... WHY? Every single item in the game almost gives you 0 statistical value over the other. You can only grind so many cosmetic items before anyone over the age of 10 completely loses interest and says adios, time for a new game!

    This is why I always whine about rares, people think I'm petty. But see, one of the things that made the original adventure quest so cool was rares or special prizes after wars or events. So even if you're not gaining that statistical advantage or incentive, there's an actual reason to attain the item or to grind. There is absolutely 0 incentive to grind any of the hard to get items in aq3d, why? Because it has already been said basically nothing will go rare. So in a game where you don't have strategy, depth or good stories ( yes offense), what makes the developers think grinding for no reason will add anything to the game?

    I was legit excited about finally getting a frogzard ate my head, and became depressed almost immediately the following day, why you ask? Because I suddenly realized I had wasted 2 months of my life and hours that I can never get back. The item isn't going rare, that means you give it 2 yrs and if the game is still alive, you'll see battleon full of people with the supposed ' rare ' helm. None of the rares in the game are worth the effort. They don't commemorate any special events or remind us of a time when we were in the game. You can't really brag with them either, because they're faux rare rng items that'll be around forever, completely nullifying any true rarity. That's why grinding in this game feels so dirty, because it is, sticky dirty waste of time.

    There are certain items that will become difficult to get later on though ... because no one else would be grinding them with you ... e.g., evil tree is now difficult to grind cause you'd have to use lots of potions to do it (by yourself) ... that said ... in some cases it is even worse case the area is level-locked
