Whether you are into horror games, strategy games, or adventure games, in the modern era there is quite simply a game to play online available for every type of gamer.

Over the years there have been plenty of big successful franchises such as Minecraft, Call of Duty, FIFA, Grand Theft Auto, and many more.

If you are a fan of card games, there are also some great options for playing online casino games too, including live games that you can play with other players.

Whether you are playing with friends or playing solo, here are just some types of games that you could play during your next session.

Fast-paced Shooters

If you have not been bitten by the Battle Royale bug, you can always return to some classic shooter action. You could switch from Warzone to traditional multiplayer in Modern Warfare, experience the ruthless competition of Counter Strike: Global Offensive, or even take a dip into some thriving modern classics like Battlefield 4 or Rainbow Six: Siege.

One of the top online games to play has been Battlefield 3 that was released in 2011. Whilst in Battlefield and Modern Warfare you’ll find sprawling but chaotic fights between troops and tanks, Counter Strike and Rainbow Six provide claustrophobic anarchy as bullets whiz through windows, doorways and walls.

Immersive Open Worlds

Rockstar has always been well known for its incredible open world creations with games such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. But it wasn’t until GTA Online, and its massive post-launch support that they took that world fully online.

Playing with your friends in these online spaces doesn’t have to mean robberies, heists, and car chases. With Rockstar providing enough side games and stunning scenery, you and old or new friends can simply wander about the world at leisure soaking it all in.

Battle Royale

Ever since Day-Z whetted people’s appetite for large-scale survival action in the last decade, large scale multiplayer survival games have slowly formed their own genre: Battle Royale games. The genre has become such a competitive market that any player is spoiled for choice.

Players can experience the sprightly figures of Fortnite, the understated realism of Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, or the classic arcade gunplay of Call of Duty’s new Warzone mode and Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends. PUBG is just one of the best online games to play right now, with its large map and 100 player setup. While other battle royale games might have a cartoonish feel to them, this one is more grounded in realism.

Hide and Seek Horror

Since the release of Dead by Daylight in 2016, asymmetrical multiplayer horror games have had a small renaissance, as developers realize how terrifying and tense it is to stack a group of survivors against one supercharged terror.

Like the games it inspired, there’s little chance of the monster being slain in this game, the only goal for the team of survivors is to escape at all costs, even if that means betraying your friends. If you crave something a little different with a vintage name behind it, try the very similar Friday the 13th game, where you will bump into Jason Vorhees (or hopefully will not) at Camp Crystal Lake.
