There are so many myths and stereotypes about online gamers. How does a person who loves online games look like in the eyes of people far from video games? This is most often a guy without hobbies, financially dependent who spends all his time on computer games. Today we will dispel all existing myths about the gaming industry.

Myth 1. Games provoke aggression

This statement is repeated like a mantra on television, in the media, in the family or with friends from year to year. But in fact, games just help to cope with aggression, because killing monsters, we throw out the negative without harm to others. If we convinced you, go to https://slots.io/en/, and join the gamers community.

Scientists have also repeatedly refuted the thesis that the games make us cruel. Games are not a catalyst for cruelty, they are just a way to have fun and have a good time.

Myth 2. Games negatively affect mental abilities

A gamer with experience probably heard such phrases repeatedly. How many times have media tried to convince you that online games lead to the destruction of the individual and in exchange, they offered you to read an educational book? However, we will destroy this stereotype. This prejudice arose from the fact that there are a couple of popular games which really do not carry anything good to the player.

But a much larger number of video games are developed and taught, and not through force, but in the entertainment format. For example, quiz games. Shooter games sharpen reaction and attentiveness since thoughtless firing around will only accelerate your defeat. Do not forget about the games with historical themes which encourage people to delve into the story. This suggests that such games can not only negatively affect your intellect, but, on the contrary, they will only add vitality to your mind and broaden your horizons.

Myth 3. Computer games are only for children

Gamers are often perceived as infantile and frivolous people because of this stereotype. However, this is not the case. A large number of popular games are marked “18+” nowadays. The games have long moved away from the audience of children and are designed for adults who can understand the twisted plot, understand the moral issues or complex combinations. It is also worth mentioning the complexity of the gameplay. In addition, according to statistics, the average age of a gamer is 35 years.

Myth 4. Women do not play online games

In fact, girls as well as boys are interested in video games and like them very much. ESA researches show that 41% of women are gamers. It is also noteworthy that, according to the data of the same association, women gamers aged 18 and over are more than boys under 18.

So, despite all the prejudices, girls have long felt very, very comfortable in the world of video games.

So, now you know that the stereotyped image of people who are fond of games is just a common misconception.

  1. Yeah every time there’s a massacre on the news they always try to blame video games but I’ve been playing GTA since I was 8 years old and I wouldn’t even think about doing such a thing.

  2. Myths 1 and 2 aren’t exactly myths. While it’s true that not everyone will become aggressive or affected mentally from playing games, there actually are people that become aggressive or affected mentally from playing games. And I think the solution isn’t to deny these effects, nor is it to ban “violent” games, which are both counter-intuitive, but to have more proactive responsibilities in parenting; like if a school counselor talks about a child’s bad behavior, I think there just needs to be better parenting, like restricting time spent on games and incentivizing better health including social activity and sports.

Myths 3 and 4, I don’t think are common myths at all. I don’t really hear people saying that games are for kids or for males; it should be obvious that anyone can get into gaming. But I think these myths are just misconceptions of demographics, because it is demographically true that games are predominantly popular in male demographics and in children demographics, so somehow the myth probably took a spin on these statistics.
