Game Description and Comments

Dark Ages is a pay-to-play MMO with very basic cartoon graphics that is based on Celtic mythology. Do not expect all the bells and whistles of a 3D MMORPG with amazing graphics but you will find a deep game with a strong community. The game’s depth comes from its political and religious systems. Players can write vote and enforces laws in towns. Players can also judge trials. As far as its religion system goes the game has 8 different religions and you can take on roles in each religion like being a Cleric or a Priest. For the community players can get married to one another and make it into a big event.

  • Eight different religions with Acolytes Clerics Priests and High Priests in each religion.
  • Player-run political systems in towns where players can vote.
  • Players can get married or be bonded to each other.
  • Five paths (classes) including the Warrior the Wizard the Priest the Rogue and the Monk.

Comment: The cartoonish graphics may make you giggle the first time you see it but underneath the simple graphics is a deep and complex role-playing world. I have been playing it for 3 years now and my character is still developing. You can be active in politics (whether it is to write laws or uphold them) you can hunt to get stronger and beat other people in the arena or you can just hang out and make friends. This is the only MMORPG that has managed to hold my attention for this long and I’ve tried a lot of RPGs. The new owners of the game seem much more dedicated and interested in developing the game further than the last owners. They are constantly updating the game with new content new hunting-areas new quests new items new abilities and spells. Try out the free trial and try to meet some people while you try it!

Comment: You see it it looks extremely old but I can see the amazing path of an MMORPG underneath. For example Runescape’s graphics are bad but it is just good anyway. Well I can see the badly animated movement already amazing like 2 screens every second. Memories are already rushing back!

  1. Another isometric 2D MMORPG, but this one was developed by Nexon KRU Interactive in 1999. Character creation is kind of basic, giving you options for gender, clothes, hair, and hair color; you don’t really start off with a particular class other than a peasant. Art style as a whole is pretty good for a late 90s MMO; the textures in the overworld feel about average, but I do like how NPCs have their own artwork when you interact with them, so that’s kind of cool. Game is themed of Celtic mythology making the story and backstory kind of interesting. Overall, I’d rate this game a 4/5; this game might not be as good as other 90s MMOs like EverQuest, but it’s pretty good for an isometric MMO.

Snowy did not rate this post.
